Adam Sandler stars in this remake of Frank Capra's classic comedy Mr Deeds Goes To Town about a smalltown nobody who becomes a New York power player after inheriting a fortune. It's a massive deal for the press and scheming reporter Winona Ryder will do anything to get the scoop. With Sandler stepping into the great Gary Cooper's shoes as the titular bumpkin, the emphasis is more on slapstick than satire; when John McEnroe pops up in his movie debut, you know it cannot be serious.
