When her engagement ends and the bleak urban stories she reports on become too much, New York journalist Leigh (Kristen Bell) heads home to Connecticut. Regressing to her adolescence, she gets back her old job as a lifeguard at an apartment building swimming pool and begins to date the troubled 17-year-old son (David Lambert) of the condo’s groundskeeper.
